NETW 202 Week 1 lab report

Instructions for successfully completing NETW202 Labs and Lab Reports:
1. Make sure that you understand the objective of the lab(s) and the requirements for successfully performing them.

2. Use this Lab Report template for all of your labs. Do not turn in separate documents for each lab orcreate your own document! Each lab is easily identified within this document.
Note: It is a good idea to read over this template before performing your labs, so that you know what to expect.
3. Follow all procedures in the weekly iLab page, as well as, ElementK ’s lab procedures and tips.
4. While performing your labs, capture and paste all screenshots identified in this Lab Report Template.
5. After each lab, summarize what you learned in a short paragraph – minimum three college-level and well- written sentences. Don’t just identify the steps that you performed (we already know that), give it some thought. In your summary, include what you accomplished in the lab, what you learned from performing it, how it relates to this week’s TCO’s and course material; and just as important, how you feel it will benefit you in your academic and professional career.
6. Save and submit your completed Lab Report to the appropriate weekly Dropbox.
Taking Screenshots
The instructions below provide basic guidance on taking screenshots of your labs
1. Complete the lab step that you would like to capture in a screenshot.
2. Make sure that the window you want to capture is in the foreground. (click on the window if it’s behind other windows and/or partially blocked).
3. Press the Print Screen key on your keyboard to copy it to your clipboard. On some keyboards, it is written as Print Scrn or PrtSc.
4. Click on your Lab Report (this document).
5. Scroll to the point in the Lab Report where you want the screenshot to appear.
6. Right click on your mouse and click paste, or press Ctrl + V7.
Once your screenshot appears in your Lab Report, click on your lab and continue to the next step.Create your lab report using this template starting on
page . It is not necessary to include this page in your lab report.

Converting Decimal to Binary and Binary to Decimal (20 points)
Instructions for the Binary Conversion Exercise:

In this week’s lab we were taught how to convert binary to decimal. We were also taught how to convert decimal to binary. This is the code in which computers compute data so it will be a useful skill I hope in the future.

Given a network and IP address we were taught how to determine the number of subnets and the minimum number of bits borrowed. This will help me in my career path when trying to become a network communication manager.
For the ElementK Computing Usable Subnets and Hosts Lab you must show your work in finding the needed bits to borrow and maximum number of hosts. A missing or incorrectly calculated question number will earn zero points.
Task: Paste your answers to questions 1 through 16 from the lab below. (1.25 points each)

Performing Switch Startup and Initial Configuration vLab (20 points)

(10 points)
Learned how to set a cisco switch back to factory default, configure a default gateway for a cisco switch. Also how to configure a console password to increase local security, and encrypt clear-text passwords found in the configuration.

Performing Initial Router Startup vLab(20 points)
Write a paragraph (minimum five college-level sentences) below that summarizes what was accomplished in this lab, what you learned by performing it, how it relates to this week’s TCO’s and other course material; and just as important, how you feel it will benefit you in your academic and professional career. (10 points)
After completing this exercise I learned how to use the initial configuration dialog to create a basic configuration on a router. Verify that the configuration has been saved to NVRAM using a show command.

Using Cisco Discovery Protocol and Managing Cisco DevicesvLab (40 points)

(20 points)
After completing this lab I am able to Use show commands to verify CDP settings, use a show command to verify which interfaces have CDP enabled, and use a show command to verify directly connected Cisco devices. I am also able to enter a debug command to view underlying ICMP messages and enter a debug command to view underlying routing messages.
