Consider the following for discussion as you develop your PowerPoint for week 5.

View or read the book or film, keeping an eye on the cultural issues or problems portrayed in the work.

Write a minimum 4-5 page (1500-2100) words paper that proposes a plan for delivering culturally competent services to one of the characters or the family appearing in the book or film. (See Rubric for Specifics)

Develop culturally competent strategies to address those issues. What would you develop for a character, for example, who has acculturation issues and faces alienation from his or her family?

Explore the richness of cultural diversity, as well as the benefits and drawbacks as portrayed by the character or characters.

Finish the Presentation you started in Week 3 of a Cultural Competency Assessment Community-Based Program.

Search for an appropriate instrument in the University Library and the Portland State University Research and Training Center on Family Support website at www.rtc.pdx.edu

Presentation should be 15-20 slides that reports your method, findings, and recommendations, including the following information:

·         A brief history of the governing board including demographics
·         The population served (issues of acculturation, segregation, bias, assimilation, etc.
·         The services offered
·         A mission statement
